Jack

Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights

of all who are destitute.  Speak up and judge fairly.

Defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Proverbs 31: 8-9

When Jack came to us on 1 March 2005 he was 2 months old and weighed 4 pounds. A heart murmur was detected and within 3 days Jack was at the children's hospital in Quito. Unfortunately, or so I thought, the Ecuadorian medical workers were in the middle of a nation wide strike and the hospital was understaffed. An echocardiogram showed that Jack's heart was extremely malformed. God rallied the help of His soldiers and an army of ladies, missionary and Ecuadorian descended on "Hospital Baca Ortiz" to help care for Jack 24 hours a day. Then 4 days later God took Jack home. In my anguish I cried out to God "Why did you bring this little life to me, just to take him away."
A couple of months later I started getting e-mails from ladies who had come to care for Jack. They were now going to the hospital on a regular basis to minister to other mothers of hospitalized children. Mothers who were sitting with their children 24 hours a day were now not only getting a break but were seeing and hearing about the love of Jesus first hand. In John 9 the disciples ask "why was this man blind?" Jesus replies "…this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life." Through Jack's short life God's work continues to be displayed. All glory be  to the Father.
